Nudes Getting Angry

Conversation on nudity between Gaëlle Bourges and Julie Perrin

The presence of nudity on the choreographic stage or during the performance can cause aesthetic problems and the pushing of boundaries : those of the social, moral and sexual order, those relating to the law and gender… Confronted by political and philosophical demands but also committed to plastic experimentation and aesthetics, the nude performer shakes up social norms of the world and of art like society which is contemporaneous. The practices of the dancer or the performer question, trouble, irritate – they seem to be in danger, acting in excess or by subtraction, exploring the trivial physicality of their bodies or the exacerbated simplicity of daily forms. How should one regard these movements, and accommodate what they are telling us?
