Between Two Leaves

As part of her collaboration with the Théâtre Public de Montreuil, Gaëlle Bourges was invited to lead a project with transgender women incarcerated at the Fleury-Mérogis correctional facility in Essonne. In February 2026, she and visual artist Gwendoline Robin designed a week-long workshop in which the group of women was invited to create an imaginary herbarium drawing on each woman’s memories, in the style of *The Prison Herbarium* by the Marxist activist Rosa Luxemburg. Physical exercises, working with clay, charcoal, and gouache, studying botany and anatomy books, and watching performances by female artists guided the group’s journey over the course of the week.
