Juste Camille is a creation produced with the group of amateur dancers from the choreographic workshop of the CCN in Tours—directed by Thomas Lebrun—during the 2017/18 season.
The chest on which the piece rests is on display at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Tours. It dates from thesecond half ofthe 15th century and is a painted wedding gift whose iconography is in fact a long warning to the future bride: it depicts the death of Camille, a character from the Aeneid written by the Latin poet Virgil. Camille is a warrior who refuses marriage and loses her life defending Italy against the arrival of Aeneas from Troy. How do women today relate to this story? Juste Camille is one possible answer to this question: the CCNT choreography workshop group consisted of 17 dancers that year.
Another version of Juste Camille was created on March 16, 2024 for and by student artists from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette de Charleville-Mézières (13th graduating class).
