Brow to brow

Brow to brow takes as its starting point the capital known as "La dispute", a Romanesque work of art dating from the 11th century, on display at the Musée Sainte-Croix in Poitiers. Three sequences of the same story are sculpted here, illustrating a confrontation: two men ostensibly pulling at each other's beards, eye to eye, forehead to forehead. As they work to set up the three scenes from the famous capital, the performers slip back into the Middle Ages - not to exhume it, but to feel what's left of it in them, and see if "forehead to forehead" is still alive.
